NASHVILLE, Ind. – The Brown County Playhouse plans destination-worthy artwork on the North side of the building and is seeking entries for a mural. The art should have a true trompe l’oeil quality that allows viewers to understand that they will find a lively theater with a rich history inside the building.
The Playhouse. established in 1949 by IU Professor Lee Norville and A. Jack Rogers of Nashville, celebrates its 75th anniversary this year. Rogers supplied the theatre’s land and barn and Indiana University managed the stock company. IU donated the theater to the Brown County Community Foundation in 2010.
Mural entrants should submit copies of their artwork. From the applicants, two or three artists will be selected to submit their ideas in a sketch form.
The final selection will involve creating a painting in the ratio of the wall, 72 X 26 feet. The winner will receive $5,000. This final painting will remain the property of the Playhouse.
The painting will then be professionally photographed and reproduced in decal form and mounted on the side of the Playhouse as a mural.
