COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) released information on Wednesday afternoon about a January 2 traffic stop that led to two drug-related arrests.
A deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on I-65 at the 79-mile marker after noticing it had an obstructed license plate. During questioning, the driver supposedly provided a fake name.
As the traffic stop continued the female passenger, Kayla Flynn, 32, of Bloomington, began having a panic attack and requested to go to the hospital. While at the hospital Flynn allegedly admitted to BCSO that she was concealing contraband on her person and retrieved approximately 34 grams of suspected methamphetamine, pills, drug-related items, and a suspected counterfeit $100 bill.
She was given jail clearance and transported to Bartholomew County Jail on the charges of Possession of marijuana, Possession of paraphernalia, Counterfeiting, Possession of meth, and an out-of-county warrant. She remains in custody on a $75,000 bond.
The driver was eventually identified as Paul Crank, Jr., 59, of Indianapolis. He also claimed to be having a panic attack and requested an ambulance. A search of the vehicle supposedly resulted in finding syringes inside of a backpack belonging to Crank. Deputies learned that the items found on the passenger had also previously been in the possession of Crank.
He was transported to Columbus Regional Health and later released. The suspect was taken into custody and charged with a False identity statement, Possession of paraphernalia, Unlawful possession of a syringe, Possession of meth, and an out-of-county warrant.
This is a preliminary investigation. All persons are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
