SEYMOUR, Ind. – Jackson County United Way has been awarded federal funds made available through the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)/Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program.
Jackson County has been chosen to receive $10,779 for Phase 40 (March 31), $14,439 for Phase 41 (Dec. 31), and $12,675 for Phase 42 (Dec. 31) to supplement emergency food and shelter programs.
A Local Board determines how funds awarded to Jackson County will be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs that are run by local service agencies. The Local Board recommends the agencies that might receive these funds and any additional funds made available under phases 40, 41, and 42.
Qualifying public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds should call Maci Baurle; Executive Director at Jackson County United Way at 812-522-5450, ext. 6, or email maci@jacsy.org. The deadline for applications is Monday, February 17, at 5 p.m.
Under the terms of the grant, local agencies chosen to receive DHS/FEMA funds must:
- be private voluntary non-profits or units of government
- be eligible to receive Federal funds
- have an accounting system
- practice nondiscrimination
- have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs
- have a voluntary board if they are a private voluntary organization
