COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) announced Monday the promotion of firefighter Cory Hampton to the rank of Lieutenant Officer. Hampton is a graduate of Hauser High School and has been with CFD for 10 years.
While with the department, he has been a member of the CFD Hazardous Materials Response Team since 2016 and also served as a Co-Chair of the Columbus Firemen’s Cheer Fund from 2017 to 2023. Lt. Hampton was awarded the department’s Medal of Valor in 2021 for heroic actions resulting in successfully rescuing an occupant trapped in a residential fire.
Hampton holds a State of Indiana Fire Officer I certification. He is also a Confined Space Rescue Technician, Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, Hazardous Materials Technician, Rope Rescue Technician, Swift Water Rescue Technician, Vehicle and Machinery Rescue Technician, and Fire Instructor.
Lt. Hampton has been assigned to serve at Fire Station #5 as Company Officer of Battalion B.
