COMMISKEY, Ind. – A second person has been charged after investigators believe he participated in assisting the suspect wanted in the shooting of an Orange County Deputy Sheriff earlier this month.
On January 3 at about 1 a.m., Orange County Deputy Sheriff Zac Andry stopped to check on a disabled vehicle at US Highway 150 and State Road 56. The driver, Austin Schepers, shot Andry several times and fled the scene to an apartment in New Albany.
The Indiana State Police (ISP) investigation determined that James Adams, 37, of Commiskey, allegedly came to that apartment at the suspect’s request. Detectives believe that Adams had full knowledge of the situation and was instrumental in helping Schepers get to Louisville.
Schepers was ultimately found in Louisville on January 4 and killed by law enforcement.
ISP located Adams at the Scott County Jail where he was incarcerated on unrelated charges. The Jennings County man was served a warrant there and arrested on the new charges of Assisting a Criminal (Level 5 Felony) and False Informing (Class B Misdemeanor).
