You’ve been hearing about Jesus… but who is He?
Savior, Teacher, Counselor, Advocate, Redeemer, Great High Priest, Friend.
All of these are accurate. First though, Jesus Christ is God.
Jesus Christ isn’t simply a man that was born and died a long time ago. He is God the Son, one of the three persons of God, co-equal with God the Father. Sovereign over all.
We know this from scripture. First, John 1:1 says:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Who is the Word? John 1:14 has our answer:
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory,
the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
Jesus is the Word! Jesus Christ is God the Son, He has always been, is and always will be. He has always reigned with God the Father, since before the world began. He was not created as another human being, He took the form of a human being to come down to Earth and walk among us!
Colossians 1:15-17 says this:
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible,
whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all
things were created through Him and for Him.
And He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Now you know who Jesus is…
How did God demonstrate his love for us through Jesus Christ?
What does that mean for me?
What kind of love did God demonstrate to us when he sent his one and only Son, Jesus, into our world to take away our sins? You have the opportunity to find out right now! When you read these verses reflect upon what they are saying to you. The Bible is living and active, by reading the Bible we can presently hear from God.
The Bible tells us in Romans 3:23 that every one of us has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Even if you try, even if you’re sincere, you’ll still miss the target. The wages of sin is death, but there is good news!
In Romans 5:8 it says that God showed his love for us in this: That while we were still sinners, Christ died for us! The Bible shows us this in John 3:16, read this verse.
Ephesians 2:9-9 says that we are saved by grace, through faith, not from ourselves, but this is a gift from God. If we believe in our heart and confess with our mouth that God raised Jesus from the dead, we receive new life! What does that mean for you?
We see this promise in Romans 10:9-10. We have new life in Jesus and we are now able to follow him and live for him forever.
You see in 1 John 4:10 that this is the kind of love we are talking about – not that we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved US and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they’ve done to our relationship with God.
We are called to share the good news with others!
